Orchard Management Software Compared: Six Tools for Fruit Growers (October 2026)
What Hectre, Farmable, Croptracker, Tend, ArboFlow and CanopyTwin actually do, with prices where vendors publish them, and how to pick the right one.
Updated October 22, 2026 · 8 min read
Search "orchard management software" and you get a wall of landing pages that all promise the same thing. The tools underneath are quite different: some are built around harvest crews and payroll, some around spray logs and audits, some around planning a season before it happens. This piece compares six of them the way a grower would: what each one does, what it costs where the vendor publishes a price, and which farm it fits. Disclosure up front: CanopyTwin is ours. Everything written about the other five comes from their own public pages, read on 9 October 2026, and everything written about CanopyTwin comes from our public pricing page and product, so you can check every claim.
The three kinds of orchard software
Most of the confusion between tools disappears once you see that "orchard management software" covers three different jobs. Harvest operations software tracks bins, crews, hours and quality during picking, which matters most to growers employing seasonal staff. Compliance and record-keeping software turns field work into the spray journals, harvest records and audit exports that buyers and certifiers ask for. And survey or digital twin software maps the orchard itself, tree by tree, and tracks what each individual tree is doing. Several products straddle two of these, so the useful question is not "which tool is best" but "which job is hurting you most".
The six tools, one by one
Prices below are what each vendor published on 9 October 2026. Where we found no price on a vendor's site, that is stated rather than guessed.
- Hectre: harvest operations and fruit quality for orchards and packhouses. Bin and bucket logging, timesheets that flow to payroll, picker productivity in bins per hour, and fruit sizing and color grading. Its homepage carries testimonials from Washington Fruit & Produce (listed as 1000+ staff) and McClaskey Orchards, and claims a 37% reduction in weekly time spent on payroll and back-office tasks. We found no price on its site; it offers a free demo.
- Farmable: compliance-first record keeping. A spray journal, GPS task tracking, QR labels on harvest bins that tie lots to their field of origin, and GlobalG.A.P. exports. The Freemium plan is free up to 5 recorded jobs, with unlimited fields and users but no PDF or XLS export. Pro is $399 per farm per year. An Enterprise Portal for cooperatives and advisors aggregates 5 to 500 farms, with bundles from $2,000 per year. Farmable says it is used by 2,100+ farms across 18 countries.
- Croptracker: modular farm management that was first developed for orchards. Spray records that alert workers to re-entry and pre-harvest intervals, harvest and yield records, traceability, and labor tracking through its Punch Clock module. The company has operated since 2006 and says it has supported tree fruit and nut growers for over 20 years. Its pricing page says plans start at $3,300 USD per year, including the first 10 users; enterprise prices are quoted.
- Tend: planning, tasks, records, sales and inventory in one product, with orchards listed among the farm types it serves. The Free plan (1 user, 25 AI automation credits per month) has no acreage or crop limits. Pro is $30 per month and adds lot traceability, inventory, and Square and Stripe payment integrations; it is described as being for small farms. Tend's pricing page states that the product is in beta.
- ArboFlow: a French product founded by a fruit grower (Mathieu Gazeau) and a cyber-defence engineer (Anicet Prod'homme). Harvest tracking by picker and plot, hours, quality and tasks entered on a phone, with offline entry in the orchard, an interface in 18 languages for seasonal workers, and pre-payroll generated automatically. We found no price on its site; contact is by phone or email.
- CanopyTwin: the tree-level survey tool of the group. A phone GPS survey turns photos into individually tracked trees on a satellite map. From the Orchard plan up, AI counts fruit and flower clusters per tree from those photos. An AI arborist grades every tree's health and returns a worst-first worklist. Plans run from $12 per month (Grower, 50 trees) through $49 per month (Orchard, 500 trees) to $149 per month (Plantation, 5,000 trees, drone photo pipeline, API access), each with a 30-day free trial and no credit card required.
Worked example: three farms, three answers
A list like that is only useful once you match it to a farm. Here are three illustrative cases and the choice each one points to.
- A 120-hectare apple operation running 200 pickers in season: harvest operations is the pain. Bins per hour, crew payroll, defect tracking. Hectre is built around this job and its testimonials come from large packers and orchards. ArboFlow covers the same ground for crews of seasonal workers. Croptracker's Punch Clock and harvest modules also fit, with a published starting price.
- A 12-hectare mango exporter preparing for a first GlobalG.A.P. audit: the pain is documentation. A dated, complete spray journal, harvest records tied to field of origin, and exports an auditor will accept. Farmable is the most explicit about this job (it advertises GlobalG.A.P. exports and QR bin labels, on the paid Pro plan). Croptracker's spray records with pre-harvest interval alerts serve the same need at a higher entry price.
- A 40-tree mixed rare-fruit collection, one operator, no crews, no audit: the pain is simply knowing the trees. What flowered, what set, what needs attention, what was planted when. Nobody needs payroll here. CanopyTwin's Grower plan at $12 per month covers up to 50 trees with a page and photo history for each. A grower who also wants AI fruit counts, or has more than 50 trees, needs the Orchard plan at $49 per month.
Blocks or trees: the question to ask first
One thing to check in this category: many farm tools record work against blocks and fields, not against individual trees. A block-level record will tell you Block C was sprayed on Tuesday. It will not tell you that one tree in the northwest corner of Block C has set fruit three years running while its neighbors lag. For spray compliance and crew payroll, block level is exactly right. If individual-tree history is your goal, check that a tool tracks trees before you buy. We have not tested the other five products, so ask each vendor directly: "can I open a page for one tree and see every photo, treatment and count attached to it?" In CanopyTwin the answer is yes, because every photo is matched to a specific tree with its own page and history.
Questions to ask before you pay
- Does the tool track individual trees, blocks, or both? It changes what records are even possible.
- Is there a free tier or trial you can test with real data? Farmable (5 free jobs), Tend (free plan, in beta) and CanopyTwin (30 days, no card) all let you start without paying.
- Does it work offline in the field? ArboFlow advertises data entry with no signal. Whatever a vendor says, confirm it in your own orchard's coverage, not in a demo.
- Can I get my data out? Look for CSV, XLS or PDF export at minimum, and API access if you plan to integrate anything. Check which plan includes it: Farmable's free plan has no PDF or XLS export, and CanopyTwin includes CSV export from the Orchard plan and API access on Plantation.
- What does the audit path look like? If a buyer or certifier is in your future, pick the tool whose exports match what your auditor asks for, not the one with the prettiest map.
- Who else uses it? A testimonial from a farm your size tells you more than a feature list. Hectre quotes large orchards and packers; Farmable quotes an apple grower in Germany and a multi-farm grower in Australia; CanopyTwin's demo farms are public and can be browsed before you pay anything.
How prices stack up
Published prices run from free to $3,300 a year, which is why this decision deserves ten minutes of arithmetic. Tend's Pro is $30 per month. Farmable Pro is $399 per farm per year, which its pricing page shows as $33 per month. CanopyTwin is $12, $49 or $149 per month depending on tree count. Croptracker starts at $3,300 per year with 10 users included, about $275 per month. Hectre and ArboFlow do not list a price, so expect a conversation first. The crew and payroll tools cost more because they replace more office work. If your farm has no payroll problem, you are probably not the customer they were built for, and that is fine: buy the tool for the job you actually have.
A note on sources: vendor pages change, prices move, and figures such as "2,100+ farms" or "37% reduction" are the vendors' own numbers, repeated here because they appear on their pages on the date above. We have not verified them independently. Check anything that matters to you on the vendor's site before committing. This comparison is dated so that you can tell when it has aged out.
CanopyTwin's place in this list is narrow and specific: it is the tool you pick when the job is knowing every tree. A phone survey of geotagged photos becomes individually tracked trees on a live satellite map. On the Orchard plan and above, AI counts fruit and flower clusters per tree with a confidence score you can audit photo by photo. The arborist worklist ranks your trees worst first with pruning urgency on each row. Plans start at $12 per month for 50 trees with a 30-day free trial and no credit card required, and you can walk the public demo farms first to see what a mapped orchard looks like before you try it on your own.
